Artist Statement

Working on a large scale, my works are primarily made through arm-knitting using hand-dyed unspun wool, constantly changing due to the material's interaction with the environment.
By occupying space, my pieces reclaim textiles as a potent means of artistic expression through their immediate mode of communication with and to the body. My practice reconnects with the body as a way of being in the world, seeing it as a useful tool in approaching the nonhuman.
The concept of what it means to be human, interacting with the "natural world", constantly emerges in my practice. I believe that humans are not outside of nature, and they cannot be seen as separate. I explore this notion through colour, challenging the concept of what it means to be truly natural. I engage with the dichotomies between natural and artificial through the exploration of natural and chemical dyes.
By reconnecting with the materiality of textiles and their power through my work, I aim to share more broadly the care for materials and surroundings, which are often commodified and alienated. I advocate for a new consciousness of care and intrinsic knowledge, only coming from working alongside silent nonhuman actors.
